Vappen (valborg) is the celebrations that happen every 30th of April. This year the traditional celebrations were obviously cancelled because of the current situation. Still, we wanted to try and make the most of the night so we planned an outdoor evening with a few others. Kept it under 10 people though. Luckily the weather was great, not too warm hehe, but we were able to sit outside until quite late. The plan was to barbeque food, but since we didn’t have any wood for the fireplace, we ended up ordering pizzas. The food took 90 minutes to arrive though haha, but eventually we got it. In the end it was a pretty successful and cosy night ❤
//Vappen (valborg) firas ju enligt tradition 30. april. I år var de traditionella festligheterna såklart inhiberade på grund av situationen. Ändå, ville vi försöka göra värt bästa med kvällen så vi planerade en kväll utomhus med några andra. Höll det under 10 pers dock. Till all tur var vädret toppen, inte allt för varmt hehe, men vi klarade av att sitta ute ganska länge. Planen var att grilla, men eftersom vi inte hade träd till eldplatsen, slutade det med att vi beställde pizza. Det tog dock 90 minuter att få maten haha, men till slut fick vi det. Sist så blev det ändå en riktigt lyckad och mysig kväll ❤
Normally everyone gathers around the Havis Amanda statue and in the Esplanadi park. Traditionally the statue is washed and then they put the graduation hat on it at 6pm – after that it’s champagne, balloons, songs, soap bubbles, serpentine, friends, dinner…
//I normala fall samlas man runt Havis Amanda statyn och i Esplanadparken. Traditionellt tvättas statyn och sen sätter man studentmössan på den kl. 18 – sen är det champagne, ballonger, sånger, såpbubblor, serpentin, vänner, middag…
On the first of May hundreds of people gather right here and it’s just like an all day picnic/party thing. Again, it’s like a sea of graduation hats. This year I think the police actually was making sure this doesn’t happen in the parks.
//På första maj samlas hundratals mänskor här och det är som en hel dags picknick/fest grej. Igen, det är som ett hav av studentmössor. I år tror jag polisen verkligen höll koll på att detta inte hände i parker.
I have spent the past three first of May’s together with Ela and I hadn’t even thought about this until we spoke about it this week because it’s been so natural that we go for the picnic together. Now this year broke our three year long tradition </3 What are your traditions around this ”holiday” or do you even celebrate it?
